Enterprise Architecture Methodology is definitely a new concept for me and I am slowly making sense of it. As I read Chapter 1 of "An Introduction to Enterprise Architecture" 3rd Edition by Scott A. Bernard along with the Harvard Business Review article titled, "Six IT Decisions Your IT People Shouldn't Make" by Jeanne W. Ross and Peter Weill, I constantly found myself making connections to how this would all play out at my school district. Enterprise Architecture is all about being as effective as possible by using all of our resources in order to meet our goals. We analyze where we are now and where we want to be and we create a pathway that brings our vision to fruition. That pathway must be created in such a way that it is flexible enough to make adjustments when necessary so that if we add, or subtract, an element, the rest of the plan won't just crumble. | Enterprise Architecture is about involving all vested stakeholders in order to create a "win-win" situation for everyone where everyone is being supported in their area of expertise in order to successfully work towards the organization's goals, mission and vision. At my school district I envision this taking place by allowing enough time for all involved participants to have the opportunity to express their concerns, perspectives, and overall feel that their input is valued and taken into consideration within the decision-making process. Ideally, we would meet more often with the IT Team actually being physically present and offering their input. Administrators, teachers, parents, students and the superintendent would offer their perspective. Everyone plays a very important role in this decision-making process and because we all focus in different areas, in order to work towards our goal of educating our students, we all see through different lenses. That's why it is imperative that ALL stake holders are involved in the decision-making process. Everyone sees the situation from different angles and we need to synergies and make informed decisions. |
